A packed ski bag with three sides adding to more than 170 cm is not automatically excluded from Ski Yu-Pack. Japan Post’s special-service rules allow larger combined dimensions when the parcel is no more than 30 kg and is suitably prepared for carrying, while Ski Yu-Pack has a separate maximum length of 210 cm. Check both measurements, not just the ordinary parcel size. Japan Post: oversized parcel FAQ

Separate the sum of three sides from the longest side
Measure the bag after packing. Write down its three outer dimensions and calculate their sum. Then identify the longest dimension as a separate value.
Here is a hypothetical bag, not an actual product specification:
| Measurement | Example |
|---|---|
| Length | 190 cm |
| Width | 30 cm |
| Thickness | 20 cm |
| Three-side total | 190 + 30 + 20 = 240 cm |
| Longest side | 190 cm |
The 240 cm total exceeds 170 cm, but the longest side remains below 210 cm. The special-service size exception is therefore relevant; you still need to establish weight, contents and suitable handling. Passing one dimension check is not a promise that the finished parcel will be accepted.
Now change only the length to 215 cm. The total becomes 265 cm, and the longest side exceeds 210 cm by 5 cm. A low weight would not cancel that length problem. Japan Post states the length limit separately from the oversized-parcel allowance. Japan Post: size and weight conditions
Two sets is a separate check from weight
Ski Yu-Pack permits up to two sets of skis and snowboards combined in one parcel. It also requires packaging that makes the ski-equipment contents readily recognizable. The service is intended to deliver equipment to a ski resort or hotel by the day before use. Japan Post: Ski Yu-Pack
For a hypothetical group of three skiers, putting three pairs into one light bag would not meet the two-set condition. Dividing the equipment changes the parcel count, but each resulting bag still needs its own dimension, weight and packing check. Do not assume that fitting inside a bag makes the contents eligible.
Before dispatch, ask the destination how it receives guest equipment and what booking information it needs. That is practical preparation, not a claim that every hotel offers storage or has the same receiving policy.

A “170-size” fare does not mean a 170 cm length limit
Japan Post lists two Ski Yu-Pack fare bands: a combined size of 140 cm or less uses the 140-size basic fare; over 140 cm uses the 170-size basic fare. The page’s fare category and its maximum-length condition answer different questions. Japan Post: Ski Yu-Pack fares
For the hypothetical 190 × 30 × 20 cm bag, the combined size places it in the over-140 band. That observation identifies the fare basis; it is not a yen quote. Origin, destination and any applicable discount still need checking.
Keep an acceptance note with the measurements
A useful note contains the packed dimensions, total weight, number of sets, destination and intended day of use. If one field is unknown, resolve it before relying on the service.
