Some Yu-Pack parcels can be collected at a convenience store, but being small enough is not the only condition. You also need a supported way to select the pickup location, and the parcel must avoid the service’s exclusions. Do not replace your home address with a store’s street address and assume that this arranges collection.

Start with how the collection is being requested
Japan Post describes two routes: selecting the service when ordering from a participating online shop, or changing the receiving location from a delivery notification. For the email route, its guidance limits the service to Yu-Pack parcels whose notification contains the dedicated-site URL. Japan Post: convenience-store and post-office collection
That distinction answers the first practical question. If an online checkout offers a pickup-location selector, use that supported option. If the parcel is already on its way, use the eligible notification’s change process. A store that accepts outgoing parcels does not, by that fact alone, establish a receiving arrangement for your parcel.
This is a planning guide based on official desk research. No delivery-change request or account registration was made for this article.
For the notification-based e-receiving route, Japan Post’s detailed guide requires a Yu ID, residence verification and receipt of e-delivery notifications. Do not assume that receiving an ordinary tracking number completes those prerequisites. For a change before delivery, the guide gives a cutoff of 3 a.m. on the first scheduled delivery day and allows only one request, with no subsequent change of delivery method. Check readiness and your chosen location before submitting. Japan Post: detailed convenience-store receiving instructions

Check the size and exclusions together
Japan Post’s FAQ gives a convenience-store limit of 100 cm for the sum of length, width and height. It also excludes freight-collect parcels, items requiring special temperature or ventilation handling, and certain contents such as perishables or live animals. Convenience-store collection excludes parcels with optional services attached. Japan Post cautions that other size or contents conditions can also prevent collection. Japan Post: parcels excluded from store and locker collection
Here are hypothetical examples. Measurements refer to the outside of the packed parcel, and no example is a confirmed booking.
| Parcel | Size calculation | What the calculation tells you |
|---|---|---|
| 40 × 30 × 25 cm, ordinary prepaid parcel | 40 + 30 + 25 = 95 cm | Below the stated store size ceiling; other conditions remain |
| 45 × 35 × 25 cm, ordinary prepaid parcel | 45 + 35 + 25 = 105 cm | Over the stated store ceiling |
| 30 × 20 × 20 cm, freight collect | 30 + 20 + 20 = 70 cm | Small enough on dimensions, but freight collect is excluded |
The third row is why measuring alone is insufficient. 着払い, or chakubarai, means the freight is to be collected from the recipient. It is one of the exclusions even when the box is compact. Ask the sender how the parcel was sent if you do not know its service conditions.
A locker is a separate size check
The same FAQ links to separate size information for Hakopos lockers. Do not transfer the convenience-store 100 cm sum to every locker. A parcel can have a modest total and still have a shape that does not fit a particular compartment. The FAQ also distinguishes optional-service treatment for stores and Hakopos; they are not interchangeable categories. Japan Post’s separate conditions
For a practical decision, first decide which type of receiving point the request actually offers. Then check its conditions. Do not change the parcel’s assumed category simply because a locker is located inside or beside a convenience store.
Prepare for collection only after the change is arranged
Keep three pieces of information together: the selected location, the confirmation or collection instructions, and the date by which those instructions say to collect. Check the actual instructions for the required code, barcode or identification rather than relying on what another store used for a previous parcel. These are preparation suggestions, not a promise that all stores use one process.
For the e-receiving route, the published collection period runs through the store-delivery date plus seven days when changed before delivery, or plus three days when changed during redelivery. The period cannot be extended. Wait for the collection-ready notification, rather than treating your change request as proof that the parcel has reached the shop. Japan Post: collection periods and notification steps
If the location you want is not offered, treat the arrangement as unresolved. Use another receiving option available for that parcel or ask the delivery post office about it. Japan Post’s e-receiving service describes changing delivery time or place through notifications, but this does not make every place available for every shipment. Japan Post: e-receiving assistance
The useful order is request route, parcel eligibility, receiving-point conditions, then collection instructions. Completing only one of those checks is not confirmation that your parcel will be waiting at the shop.
